Every October, the village of Buren on Ameland transforms into a vibrant festival ground during the Bure Fair! For three days – from Thursday to Saturday – there is plenty of entertainment for all ages, featuring live music, fun games, and of course, the traditional sport of tiepelen. A weekend full of festivities along the Kooiweg in Buren!
What can you expect at the Bure Fair?
- Thursday – 45+ Evening: The fair kicks off with a special evening for those over 45. A friendly start to the festive weekend with music, dancing, and a relaxed atmosphere.
- Friday and Saturday – Games and Entertainment: During the day, there are plenty of games for young and old, including the always-popular playback show.
- Friday and Saturday Evening – Music and Party: The evenings are all about live music, fun, and dancing into the late hours.
- Open Ameland Championship Tiepelen: On Ameland, the traditional game of tiepelen is still played, and during the Bure Fair, even the Open Ameland Championship takes place! Many teams dress up in costumes, adding to the colourful and festive competition.
- What is Tiepelen? This old Ameland game has been passed down through generations. All you need is a long stick of about 50 cm and a shorter stick, both roughly the thickness of a broom handle. The long stick is used to hit the smaller stick away, and whoever hits it the farthest wins! A nostalgic and sporty spectacle you won’t want to miss!
Experience the unique atmosphere of the Bure Fair and enjoy an unforgettable weekend full of music, games, and tradition!
