Bureblinkert - Observation point

The Bureblinkert is a high dune and viewpoint in the Buurderduinen, north of the village of Buren on Ameland.
What can you expect at the Bureblinkert?
It is not a busy attraction, but rather a lovely place for those who enjoy walking, getting some fresh air and experiencing the open dune landscape of Ameland. Beautiful views over Ameland: From the Bureblinkert, you look out over the Buurderduinen, towards 't Oerd, the Wadden Sea and, in clear weather, even towards the mainland. The combination of dunes, beach, open plains, salt-marsh-like areas and sea makes this a particularly beautiful viewpoint.
- One of the higher dunes in the area: The Bureblinkert is about 16 metres high and therefore stands out clearly in this part of Ameland. The name blinkert refers to a dune with light-coloured sand that used to glisten or “shine” in the sun.
- Peaceful dune landscape: The Bureblinkert lies in a quieter part of the island. Here, you walk through an open area with marram grass, sandy paths and wide skies. It is a lovely place for tourists who would like to escape the busier villages and beach entrances for a while.
- Historic traces of the war: During the Second World War, a German bunker complex was located here. Much of the trenches, passageways and brick remains has now been overgrown by dune grass, but if you look carefully, you can still spot traces in the landscape.
