Oerdblinkert - Observation point

The Oerdblinkert is located in the eastern part of Ameland, right in the middle of the rugged nature area Het Oerd.
What can you expect at the Oerdblinkert?
Highest point of Ameland: At around 24 metres high, this is the highest point on the island. Especially in clear weather, the view is impressive.
- Panoramic view: At the top, you have a view over the eastern part of Ameland, the Wadden Sea and a wide landscape of dunes, sand, salt marshes and water. In good visibility, you can sometimes even see Schiermonnikoog and Terschelling.
- Rugged nature of Het Oerd: Het Oerd is one of the most unspoilt nature areas on Ameland. Wind, sea and sand have created a dynamic dune landscape here that feels different in every season.
- A beautiful place for photography: Because of the play of light, clouds, sand and water, the Oerdblinkert is a photogenic place. Especially in the early morning or around sunset, the landscape gains extra depth and colour.
- Birdwatching: The area around Het Oerd is popular with bird lovers. With a bit of luck, you may spot spoonbills, harriers and other birds that live or breed in this peaceful part of the island.
Oerd hut at the foot of the dune: At the Oerdblinkert, you will find the Oerdhut. It is a pleasant place to shelter for a moment, rest, or take a short break during a walk or cycle ride.

How do you get to the Oerdblinkert?
- On foot or by bicycle: The Oerdblinkert can be reached via walking and cycling routes through the eastern dune area of Ameland.
- By car: By car, you can drive as far as the car park at the Kooioerdstuifdijk, east of Buren, where the Jan Sietsepad ends.
- Distance from the car park: From this car park, it is still about 4.8 kilometres one way on foot or by bicycle towards the east to reach the Oerdblinkert.
Practical information
Location: In the nature area Het Oerd, in the eastern part of Ameland.
- Free access: The Oerdblinkert viewpoint can be visited free of charge all year round.
- Tip: Bring enough water and be prepared for wind and changing weather. In this open dune area, the weather can change quickly.
- Respect the nature: Stay on the marked paths, especially during the breeding season. This helps keep this special nature area peaceful for birds and other animals.
Climb the Oerdblinkert and enjoy one of the finest views on Ameland, surrounded by dunes, the Wadden Sea and endless sky.
