Engelsmanduun - Observation point

The Engelsmanduun is the highest dune in the Hollumerduinen, north of Hollum, near holiday park Boomhieke on the western side of Ameland.
What can you expect at the Engelsmanduun?
Lovely viewpoint: It is not a major tourist attraction, but rather one of those peaceful spots where, during a walk, you are suddenly rewarded with a beautiful view over the dune area north of Hollum.

Historic name: According to Ameland tradition, the name Engelsmanduun refers to English victims of the wreck of the ship De Valk in 1799. They are said to have been buried in a dune near Hollum, after which the place became known as the Engelsmanduin.
Traces of the Second World War: In the area around the Engelsmanduun, there is a small German bunker, a so-called Tobruk. It is a reminder of the wartime history of Ameland and makes the walk even more interesting for those who notice historical details.
- Living dune landscape: Because of wind, drifting sand and erosion, the landscape here is constantly changing. This makes the area not only beautiful to look at, but also special as an example of the dynamic nature of the Wadden Islands.

- Accessibility: The place is best reached on foot during a walk through the dune area. Wear sturdy shoes, as paths through the dunes can be sandy and uneven.
