Maritime Centre Abraham Fock - Museum

Maritime Centre Abraham Fock in Hollum on Ameland is the museum of lifeboats and sea rescue. It stands on the site of Hollum's old lifeboat station.
What can you expect at Maritime Centre Abraham Fock?
History: The museum is named after Abraham Fock, co-founder of the Noord- en Zuid-Hollandsche Redding Maatschappij in 1824. Hollum's lifeboat station operated here from 1826 to 1988. On 14 August 1979 eight horses drowned during a rescue; the Paardengraf (horse grave) in the dunes remembers them.
Highlights: Highlights of the Maritime Centre are:
- The horse-drawn lifeboat, on display in the museum.
- The horse lifeboat demonstrations: about 12 to 14 times a year, ten horses pull the boat through Hollum into the sea. They start at the museum and are free to watch.
